My ELA book report: “A Midsummer Nights Dream” William Shakespeare

Writer's picture: V. HicksV. Hicks

Genre: Comedy

This book was about a love triangle relationship among two men, Lysander, Demetrius, and a girl by the name of Hermia. Both men have fallen in love with Hermia, a soft, lighthearted, intelligent, and majorly flirtatious young woman.

Hermia: youngest of the seven princesses

Hermia was the youngest of the seven daughters, being only at 22. She was kind, youthful, lighthearted, and flattering. She wanted to marry Lysander instead of Demetrius, and her father, King Egesus, leader of the Fairy Kingdom, wanted her to marry Demetrius instead of Lysander. This made her have a weak relationship with King Egesus as she believed that she was mature enough to make her own decisions and mistakes. This made Hermia go through hard times in this section of the story.

The Problem: Hermia's Dilemma.

Although both Lysander and Demetrius were in love with Hermia, her father, King Egesus, insisted that Demetrius marries Hermia instead of Lysnader, for King Egesus thought that Lysander was not deemed worthy for her as part of his Kingdom

Puck: Elite sorcerer and creator of mastering potions.

There were alot of main characters in the story, such as the Author of the book, William ShakeSpeare, Demetrius, Lysander, Titania, Oberon, etc. Puck was one of them.

Puck was a mastered sorcerer, having control over elements and magic and controlling environments at a subatomic level. Creating love potions, acids, elixirs, all with his bare hands. Puck, having reserved all of this, accidentally gave both Demtrius and Lysander a love potion, having them fall in love with Hermia, which is why they had fallen in love with her in the first place along with her unique personality and characteristics.

Titania: Valkyrie Queen.

Titania was a formidable combatant with her big long wings and one of the queen leaders of Valkyries, while King Egesus handled being a ruler of citizenship and the overall stability of the Fairy Kingdom. Titania was the leader of the Fairy Kingdoms overall militia. She was a good, long friend of Puck, and they've been that way for over 20 years. Puck had spread the news to Titania, and he suggested that if they managed to combine their knowledge together, they could make some type of  “Anti Love Potion”, which will weaken if not completely dissipate Demetrius and Lysander's attraction towards Hermia.

Solution and Conclusion/Resolution: Puck, Titania, Demtrius, Hermia, and Lysander all succumbing to their emotions.

Demtrius and Lysander were aware that the potion has them like this, which made Demetrius and Lysander hate Puck for a while. Therefore they all worked together, alongside Hermia, to make their “Anti love potions” effective, which was intended to weaken they’re attraction. However, Puck had accidentally exploded the potion due to his sorcery, thus making Hermia not only fall in love with Lysander but also Demetrius. Titania and Puck, though both used to be close friends, now had made them fall in love with each other as well, which eventually led Puck and Titania to marry.   All four had succumbed to their emotions and just agreed with it, and even to the point where Hermia's father, King Egesus, was persuaded by his citizens of the fairy kingdom that this would improve his legacy. He Later became in compliance with it as well.

I enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend this book to someone, to a friend, a classmate, or even my cousins. This book's message showcased that sometimes some things in life were just meant to be, and let God do His work as everything happens for a reason.

“This above all: to thine own self to be true, And it must follow, as night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man”

-William Shakespeare
