A Snowy Day in Mobile, Alabama

Writer: C. LeverettC. Leverett

Early in the morning, I woke up on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, to an unusual

silence. I grabbed my phone and squinted at the bright scene. School was closed

due to the weather. At first, I thought I was dreaming, but then I sat up and

ran to the window. At that moment, I couldn't believe my eyes. The rooftops, cars,

and yards were covered in a thin layer of white snow. It wasn’t much, but in

Mobile, Alabama, it was basically a blizzard.

As soon as I realized it was real, I threw on my hoodie, jeans and gloves and ran

outside. The air was freezing and I could  see my breath like a little cloud in front

of me. A few of my neighbors were already outside scooping  up whatever snow

they could find. After that, my friend, Mason, came running down the street.

“Dude! It’s actually snowing!”, he shouted.

I said,”I know! This is insane!” I grabbed a handful of snow and packed it into the worst

snowball ever (it was mostly ice). Right away, I threw it at Mason, but he dodged and

laughed. Then, we decided to build a snowman, but the snow kept mixing with dirt

and grass. By the time we finished, it looked more like a muddy snow monster.

We didn’t care, because we were just happy to have any snow at all.

After a while, my fingers felt numb, so I ran inside the house to warm up.

As soon as I stepped inside, I smelled hot chocolate that my mom had made for me.

Then, I wrapped myself in a blanket and sipped the hot chocolate.

Finally, as the sun sets, I looked outside one last time. I knew I’d always

remember this day. For the first time ever, Mobile had a real snowy day,

and it was the best one I had ever seen.
